Having a wood fired heating system, and open fires most of the year, we get through a few tons of logs every year at Croick. So cutting timber each year is a serious business. Over the last few weeks we have been focused on cutting enough that it can dry and then take us through the winter. It is an industrial operation, with tractors, wood processors and trailers of timbers going to the storage shed.
It is also one my favourite tasks of the year. There is something deeply satisfying about laying in a store of timber that you know will keep you warm for the winter.
