Nearly there …
Another year’s lambing is nearly finished. After the hardest winter for at least a decade it was hard to know what to expect. We had rather more small lambs than usual and some very uneven twins, but it was not … Continue reading
No country for young lambs
We woke the morning to find weather more like January 26 than April 26. But it is what it is. The lambs seem to have survived so far, but we shall see what the rest of the week brings.

Waiting and Resting
Lambing involves a lot of waiting around, both for the expectant mothers and for us; long periods of waiting interrupted by unplanned bouts of frantic activity. Today was a waiting day, and because it was also a day the weather … Continue reading

Sheep
As this photo shows, the sheep are doing well at the moment. We completed shearing quite early which turned out to be a good choice in the current hot weather and both the sheep and lambs seem to be in … Continue reading
New twins
With all this focus on new arrivals I should point out that lambing is now in full swing up here, even though it is long over further south. These twins were born yesterday and are brought in from the … Continue reading

The sale
So, I am back from my first lamb sale. It went remarkably well and we got a fair price for all our lambs; very reassuring. It was particularly nice that our main batch of ewe lambs, pictured in the … Continue reading
Gathering the sheep
It is a big day for Croick tomorrow with our first lambs going to market. These are the first lambs from the gemmers (maiden ewes) we bought in Autumn 2010. Today we were gathering them in, counting, sorting and … Continue reading
